Our initial concept for a pedestrian footbridge in Hoi An, Vietnam. Every month the town’s city lights are switched off to celebrate the full moon festival. Locals and visitors flock to the riverbanks to release candle-lit floating lanterns whilst wishing for happiness, luck and love. Vietnamese bridges from the past often had roofs. The Japanese bridge in Hoi An contains an additional cultural element in the form of a temple. From this stemmed the idea of providing more than just a crossing from A to B, but to include a cultural function for this new quarter of Hoi An.
