Amid the rapid urban development of Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City, many architectural works, living spaces, and urban memories are gradually transforming or disappearing under the pressure of modernization. Today, heritage is not only represented by historic buildings or artifacts preserved in museums, but also by the living memory of the city — the cultural layers, street corners, everyday lifestyles, people, and emotions that have shaped the urban landscape across generations. Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City is a uniquely layered metropolis, where multiple cultures and urban heritages coexist, intersect, and evolve over time. From traces of riverine life, trading ports, and Chinatown districts to colonial architecture, modern urbanism, and ordinary living spaces — all together create the city’s diverse identity and profound depth of memory. With its dual-directional concept, the program “Heritage Speaks – Speaking with Heritage” aspires to create an open dialogue between the past and the present: Heritage itself “speaks” through architecture, memories, images, and traces still embedded within the urban fabric; At the same time, people today continue to “speak” with heritage through research, art, conservation, and personal experiences in contemporary life. Through three interdisciplinary perspectives — archaeology, photography, and architecture & urban conservation — the program invites audiences to rediscover Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City as a city rich in cultural depth, where the past continues to exist within every layer of space and everyday life.
