Jenchieh Hung is a world-renowned architect, educator, and founder of the Bangkok-based architectural firm Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee / HAS design and research, widely recognized as HAS design and research. He has earned an exceptional reputation in the field of architecture for his innovative design methodology and significant academic contributions. Throughout his career, Jenchieh Hung has shaped both the built environment and the education of future generations of architects. His expertise and influence have been internationally recognized through his appointment as a juror for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) – RIBA International Awards: Asia Pacific Awards, becoming the first architect from Thailand to serve in this capacity. He has also served as guest editor of the Journal of the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA Journal), contributing critical perspectives that highlight the emergence of contemporary Thai architecture on the global stage. In addition, he has been appointed lifetime honorary professor, through which he continues to share his academic experience with the next generation of architects. He currently serves as a visiting professor, adjunct professor, and distinguished professor at Tongji University, Chulalongkorn University, World University of Design, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, and Huaqiao University. His design and research studio, Hung And Songkittipakdee Laboratory (HAS Lab), investigates pattern formation as a strategic methodology for simulating and reimagining complex urban spatial systems.
Professor and architect Jenchieh Hung’s career is grounded in sustainability, innovation, and cultural relevance. In 2023, he was appointed exhibition chairman and principal curator by The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage (ASA). In this role, he curated several major international exhibitions, including the Infinity Ground Architecture Exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC), one of Thailand’s most prominent cultural institutions. Later, he curated Collective Language: Asian Contemporary Architecture Exhibition at the IMPACT Arena Exhibition and Convention Center, which marked one of the first large-scale exhibitions dedicated to contemporary Asian architects and was organized in collaboration with the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA). Jenchieh Hung has emerged as one of the most critical and forward-thinking voices in contemporary architecture in Thailand, Southeast Asia, and the broader Asian region. He has gained international recognition for a series of influential projects in Thailand and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Aluminum Thailand, Simple Art Museum, High Line Bangkok, Aluminum Grotto and Public Ground, The Glade Bookstore, Forest Villa, and Casa de Zanotta. Jenchieh Hung and his firm are the first Thai architectural firm to be included in the Wallpaper* Architects’ Directory from the United Kingdom and the Louis Vuitton City Guide Bangkok from France.
